My electric dryer will not heat.  It will tumble, but will not produce hot air.  Do I need a new heating element?

Possibly.  However, the first thing that you need to do is check to see if you are getting 220 volts of power to your machine.  You can do this by checking your fuse box to see if half of your 220 fuse to the dryer is blown.  In a lot of instances, all a person has to do is reset the blown fuse and "voila", the dryer heats again.

My dryer takes forever to heat.  I have to do a load twice sometimes to get it dry.  Do I need a new dryer?

It sounds like you either have venting that is clogged with lint, a dryer that is in serious need of an interior cleaning (this should be done by a professional), or you have too many bends and turns in your venting leading outside.  In all of the above instances, you are dealing with an improper or inadequate airflow problem.

My washer is putting grease stains all over my clothes.  Is it my transmission?

More than likely, no.  Take a bar of soap and see if you can wash out the "grease" spot.  If it comes out easily, it is more than likely fabric softener.  Fabric softener is not good for a washer or clothes.  If you must use it, dilute it with water and clean out your dispenser often.  By the way, did you know that fabric softener was animal fat???

Are smoothtop ranges hard to keep clean?

No, they are very easy to maintain.  However, as with any range top, spills must be wiped up after they happen.  There are several products available to assist you in keeping your smoothtop shiny and new looking.  It is very important to clean up all spills that contain sugar before the spill is allowed to completely cool.  Sugar will bond to the surface and actually remove chunks of the top with it after it has cooled.  This is called "pitting."

My wife washes the dishes before she puts them in the dishwasher.  This seems unneccesary to me.

It is always good practice to scrape all plates and dishes as clean as possible before putting them in the dishwasher.  However, washing the dishes before hand is not neccesary.  And as a matter of fact, if you are washing clean dishes in the dishwasher, you are just wasting soap.   The soap reacts off of the food enzymes that are on your dishes.  There is nothing wrong with washing dishes before hand, but I would suggest to let the machine do the work it was designed to do.  One important tip to help get the best performance from a machine is to make sure you have properly stacked the dishwasher.

My ice cream does not seem like it is as frozen as it should be.  It is too soft.

Sugar free ice cream will not freeze as hard as regular ice cream.  If this is not the case, try moving the ice cream to a different location of the freezer.  Keep it in the middle of the freezer, instead of in the door or against the back wall.

Are front load washers really that much better than top load washers?

YES!  YES! YES!  Front load washers use almost half the water a top load washer uses (approx. 11-20 gallons compared to 45-54 gallons).  Plus they spin out at 1000-1200 rpms, where a top load washer is 600-650 rpms.  This allows for your wash time to equal your dry time.  No more waiting for your dryer to catch up!  You only need to use a 1/3 of the amount of soap and your clothes get cleaner!  In a top load your clothes are soaking in dirty water, kind of like a bath.  In a front load, clean water is constantly being added to the machine, kind of like a shower.  And since there is no agitator in a front load, your clothing does not get as worn and beat up and there is more capacity in the machine to do larger loads.

My front load washer smells funky.  What can I do to remove this odor?

There are a few products out there that will clean your machine and take away the funky smell.  We currently sell "Affresh" which is a tablet that you can use on a monthly basis.  You can also try doing an empty cycle with just bleach.  I would recommend doing some type of cleaning on a monthly basis.
